NEW
MINNESOTA DIVISION AWARDS PROGRAM
                             (ADOPTED IN 2004)
Message from 2004 MDIAI President Uttermark about the awards program,

Several people worked long and hard, starting a little over 18 months ago to develop
an awards program for the MDIAI. It was one way we could show our appreciation for
all the extra hard work and dedication to the forensic sciences, education and the
MDIAI made by some of our members.. This is a short letter providing basic
information about how the awards are intended to be utilized so there is no
misunderstanding

1)        The Forensic Science Advancement Award.  The qualifications have been listed
with the award. But basically this is for individual(s) who has developed a new
forensic technique, or have contributed to the advancement of forensic science and
crime scene by education of others.

2)        Sustained Achievement Award.  The qualifications have been listed with the
award. This award is a step up from the Forensic Science Advancement Award. Here
the award focuses on a longer term dedication to forensic sciences and crime scene
investigation.  Individual(s) who, over a period of time, have researched and published
in forensic journals, contributed articles to Gopher Identification, or other forensic or
law enforcement publications.  This includes a long term education of others in crime
scene and forensic sciences at local and higher levels.  This award is based on their
contributions to crime scene and forensic science, not for service or involvement with
MDIAI or Board of Directors.

3)        The Charter Award. (Named for the original charter members of MDIAI)
This is our highest award presented by the MDIAI.  It too, focuses on contributions to
forensic science, crime scene and education, but not to the same extent as the
Sustained Achievement Award.  Here the focus is on a smaller contribution to forensic
science, crime scene, education and more with direct involvement with the MDIAI.
Involvement can include service on the board of directors, committee service and
chair positions, Gopher Identification Editor, a long history of education and
presentations at MDIAI Education Conferences, or combination there of. Basically,
what has the individual done to make the MDIAI a better organization.
